how do i enrol? (Please read the rest of the info below this section)

  • Download and complete the enrolment form,
  • Deposit the enrolment fee (see enrolment form for fees and payment options),
  • You may pay your fees in instalments by making use of either credit card or debit order facilities - if you choose either of these, be sure to complete the debit order/credit card form attached to the enrolment form,
  • Use the Bank Deposit form for your enrolment fee or make an internet transfer (we don't accept cash or cheques on the premises for security reasons),
  • Send (fax, post or deliver) your completed enrolment forms, proof of payment of the enrolment fee and a copy of your ID to us.
We will confirm your place in the class once we have received all of your documentation.

is this the right career for me?
The course is suited to people who:

  • want to learn how to be more creative in decorating interior spaces
  • who have no decorating qualification
  • as well as those seeking a refresher course or post-graduate qualification
We have specifically written the course with the serious practitioner in mind. We expect that the graduate will more likely practice in the commercial, rather than the domestic, environment. As such the course is not suitable for those with a casual or recreational interest in Interior Decorating (ie it is not a "curtains and cushions" course).

is the course recognised?
The Interior Decorating course offered by Inscape Design College is a part-programme of our HEQC-accredited Interior Design programme.

how is the course structured?
The Interior Decorating Certificate course is a one year part-time or 6 months 'full-time' course consisting of a series of modules which are assembled to form a useful qualification.

As Inscape is a private college, it is flexible, result-oriented and geared to market needs. The course modules are written in on-going consultation with industry to ensure their continuing relevance.

Continuous assessment of student progress ensures that, on completion of their studies, they may be expected to be fully competent to play a productive and profitable part in industry.

what is covered in the course?
On completion of the course you are qualified to:
  • plan an interior space, taking into account the furniture, wall and floor treatments, colour schemes and most importantly, the people who will use the space;
  • produce artists impressions of the space;
  • draw layout sketches and elevations showing dimensions of particular elements and features;
  • decorate the interior space, taking into account all relevant influences and desired effects;
  • join an interior decorating business or start your own business in this exciting field.
when does the course start?
There are two possible commencements: in Jan/Feb and Jul/Aug each year.

how long is the course?
You have 2 options:
• one year part-time: two 2-hour classes each week - with 6 to 10 hrs homework per week - as well as 240 hours Experiential Training, OR
• six months 'full-time': four 2-hour classes per week - with 12 to 20 hrs homework each week - then 240 hours Experiential Training.
There are four holiday breaks per year.

  • Module 08: Application of Interior Decorating
    implimentation of decor project from concept to handover • visual and verbal presentation
  • Module 09: Electives
    • CAD for the Built Environment: (Mornings or afternoons for one week)
      drawing template • produce a floor plan • text and dimensioning • plotting
    • Starting your own Business:
      start your own business • managing money • financial documents • tax and the law • selling your services
  • Module 10: Portfolio
    produce and present a professional portfolio • solve problems • work independently • demonstrate industry-readiness
  • Module 11: Experiential Training
    • Work in the Decorating field under the supervision of a Interior Decorator, an Interior Designer or Architect for 240 hours within 12 months from the start of the course,
    • Submit a log signed by the supervisor confirming that the above work has been done,
    • Submit a portfolio of evidence of the work undertaken during the Experiential Training.
