is this the right career for me?
Please make an appointment with one of our career advisors if you need any advice.
is the course recognised?
Inscape's Architectural Draughting course has Training Programme Approval by South African Institute of Draughting (SAID) and our students are encouraged to register as members.
The law requires all people who produce architectural documentation to register with South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP).
Inscape is the first and only private college to have its Architectural Draughting course validated by SACAP. If you enrol at Inscape, you only have to do three years of internship before applying for SACAP registration.
(Students at institutions that are not validated by SACAP must also have undergone two years of practical training under the direct supervision of a professionally registered person, by the end of their course. Thereafter, they still have to do three years of internship. Then only can they apply to SACAP, who at their discretion, will allow them to be registered as Candidate Architectural Draughtspersons.)
when does the course start?
There are two possible commencements: in Jan/Feb and Jul/Aug each year.
how long is the course?
You have 2 options:
• one year part-time: two 2-hour classes each week - with 6 to 10 hrs homework per week - as well as 240 hours Experiential Training, OR
• six months 'full-time': four 2-hour classes per week - with 12 to 20 hrs homework each week - then 240 hours Experiential Training.
There are four holiday breaks per year.
You will find the course dates and times on the enrolment form below.
is it a practical course?
Our courses are outcomes-based and the focus is on the learner integrating the theory explained in the classroom by the lecturers and applying this practically in projects, which are then assessed by the lecturer.
There are no exams; in order to graduate, students must complete and submit a series of projects and pass each module.
is there legislation governing this sector?
- The Architectural Profession Act 44 of 2000 provides for the registration of Professional Architects, Senior Architectural Technologists, Architectural Technologist and Architectural Draughtsperson.
- People wanting produce and submit drawings to local councils for approval must be registered by SACAP.
- To facilitate this registration, it is recommended that students of the Inscape Architectural Draughting course apply to the SAID for membership.
