who should take this course?
Modern design finds its origins in art. (Good designers use a combination of hand illustration, computer generated images and creative thinking). Because of this, a knowledge of, and an ability in art are a prerequisite for enrolling for design at most reputable institutions.

Grade 12 Visual Arts is a requirements for admission at Inscape. Unfortunately, not all applicants have had the opportunity to take art at school, and not all Grade 12 Visual Arts qualifications are suitable for enrolment into design.

Students who do not have Grade 12 Visual Arts or a suitable art qualification can take the Inscape Design Foundation course as a bridging year to their first year of design.

what will i learn? (syllabus)
  • The course covers roughly the same as Grade 10 - 12 Visual Arts,
  • We'll guide you in developing the following knowledge and skills:
    • observation,
    • critical analysis
    • visual communication
    • aesthetics
    • knowledge and use of media
    • elements and principles of art
    • art making techniques
    • life drawing
    • 2- and 3-dimensional work
    • presentation
    • creative problem solving
    • critical discussion of art, artists and art movements, and
    • life skills - including study methods, time management, inter-personal skills, stress management.
