who is this course for?
If you enjoy deciding how the space inside buildings should look and work, and making these plans a reality; if you would enjoy hearing people complimenting you on a successfully designed interior, then this is the career for you.
what is interior design?
In some countries it is called Interior Architecture. You might say it is architecture for interior spaces, with product design thrown in.
The Interior Designer is concerned with the functional, aesthetic and enjoyable use of living and working space. Whether it is for a business or a home, the architect designs the building, the Interior Designer designs the space inside, the decorator and other contractors implement the design.
The true designer is able to make structural changes to a space, design furniture and lighting and show the client - by means of perspective drawings or models - what the interior will look like with the changes effected. The designer also produces the technical drawings for the contractors to work from.
what types of interiors could i design?
This course is concerned with the design of:
- commercial interiors - boutiques, restaurants, exhibition stands, conference centres, clinics, department stores, hotels, resorts, offices
- it also includes home interiors and, of course,
- furniture and product design.
It focuses on the areas where there are career opportunities.
