DESIGN PROGRAMMES

Admission Policy

The Department of Education has stated that institutions must require a National Senior Certificate [NSC)] as certified by Umalusi for admission into their higher education programmes from 2009.  [Department of Education (2005). Minimum Admission Requirements. Pretoria: DoE.]

Inscape applies this requirement at present, except that we also admit applicants via RPL assessment.

Applicants who have successfully completed Grade 12 with the subjects: art or design and preferably mathematics (or similar) usually have a suitable academic background for admission to a design programme, but each applicant is interviewed and each is considered on individual merit.

A person who does not have Grade 12 art or design but who has a developed artistic talent and problem solving ability may be admitted to the Design Foundation access programme.

Admission Procedures

application

The attributes sought in an applicant for a design programme are: the ability to communicate well, an inquiring mind, problem solving abilities, personal discipline, creativity, an aesthetic sensibility and perhaps most important, the right attitude.

  • Applicants to our Design programmes complete a Selection Application Form and submit it with the required portfolio of six drawings.
  • The college secretary capture the applicants details from the form onto the MS Access database.
  • Selection Application Forms are sent to Inscape head office in Johannesburg. The college secretary in Johannesburg captures these details onto the main database forwards the form to the college principal.
  • If the form received is incomplete or requires additional drawings, then the college secretary forwards it to the marketing officer to follow up the prospective client/student.
  • The Principal considers the application.  If additional drawings or information is required then the form is returned to the college secretary who will then forward it to the marketing officer to follow up the prospective client/student.
  • All Selection Application Forms are filed in alphabetical order in each respective campus file.
  • If the applicant has been successful the Johannesburg college secretary contacts the applicant to book the interview with the principal. The applicant must bring a copy of their ID book and two ID photos to the interview.
  • Before the interview, the secretary gives the applicants Selection Application Form to the principal to peruse while the applicant completes the Interview Application Form.
  • After the interview, the principal indicates on the Form whether or not the student is approved for enrolment.
  • The college secretary issues the prospective student a Confirmation of Acceptance letter, the appropriate Contract of Enrolment form and the Debit Order & Credit Card Authority forms.
